Dear Workshop Participants,

Welcome to this Workshop which has been put together by Researchers and Dietitians involved in the Palm Tocotrienols in Chronic Hemodialysis (PATCH) Study. I am the Course Coordinator of this Workshop joined by my PATCH colleagues- Associate Prof Pramod Khosla from Wayne State University and Dr Zulfitri Maat Daud from Universiti Putra Malaysia- in this joint collaboration between our respective institutions and theSanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences. PATCH is trialing in both the United States and Malaysia, and is an interventional study with an vitamin E isomer, tocotrienols.

Our Study necessitates nutritional screening and assessment of dialysis patients at baseline and every 3 months thereafter. This means we have dietitians in our country Teams who are routinely screening patients and study procedures are very much following clinical practice guidelines. Our dietitians are pursuing Masters degrees as well as doctoral programmes in universities in both Malaysian and United States. Our Teams have met with each other, synced and are linked to our study protocols.

With two years into PATCH, it struck me that our Group should share our experience with our Indian Colleagues. I hope some of you who have registered for this Workshop are dietitians. Clinicians are also welcome to jointhis Workshop, as the theories, practices and philosophies of nutrition assessment for dialysis patients are there to be shared, particularly as we are moving towards multidisciplinary care of our patients. Welcome!
