Dr Vidya Acharya is no more with us but her legacy continues to guide us, her students, to carry on the good work of teaching done by her over the years.

Her benevolence is obvious from the fact that she had already made provision in her will to set up a COREP trust and had set aside a large sum of money from her own funds for the same. Being a meticulous planner she had appointed some of us during her lifetime to be the trustees (Dr. Alan Almeida, Dr. Bharat Shah and Dr. Umesh Khanna) to carry on the good work.

One of the major aims of this trust is to impart training and teaching in nephrology to healthcare workers who are the main pillars of nephrology, a subject close to her heart, for which she worked tirelessly all her life. Hence we decided to hold a full day programme comprising of three parallel sessions for dieticians, dialysis technicians and transplant coordinators. The members of the COREP trust along with Mumbai Nephrology Group, Indian Dietetics Association, Amar Gandhi Foundation and Apex Kidney Foundation, had designed a very comprehensive, day to day practical and clinical-oriented programme in Nephrology.

Nutrition is an important aspect of health and disease. Kidney disease has an adverse impact on nutrition and every ailment of kidney requires a tailored diet which will keep the patient healthy without negatively affecting the renal health.

The conference started with basic science explaining the impact of kidney disease on nutrition and health to explaining the nutritional needs of a patient in various types of kidney diseases. Renowned speakers in the field enriched delegates with their experience and practical guidance to students learning dietetics and practicing dieticians.

We have put together the proceedings of the meeting with the write up and presentation from each speaker. We hope you will like reading this manual as much as we loved compiling it for you.
